The Layering Commandments

layered

Layering necklaces [amongst other jewelry] is hardly a new concept, but perfecting the look can be difficult. Fear not. Here are some true blue rules to layering:

1. Don’t be afraid to mix metals
2. Be sure to stagger each necklace [don’t have one on top of another]
3. Stick to dainty, feminine pieces [one chunky strand is enough]
4. Try to limit your number of pieces to four [more than this can look chaotic]

If you still find this look daunting, check out Urban, Anthropologie, Nasty Gal, Brandy Melville, or BaubleBar for pre-layered inspiration.

Blazin

A blazer can change the entire look & feel of an outfit. Adding a chic, polished blazer to a distressed pair of denim can add a perfect day-to-night touch. Or add a scarf & a great pair of heels & you’re business ready. Ditch your next sweater purchase & invest in a few great blazers this Spring! But remember these quick tips:

1. The true fit of a blazer is measured in the shoulders
2. White, black & a bright statement blazer should be staples in your wardrobe
3. Be sure to view your behind before purchasing [beware of looking too masculine from the rear view]

Be Bold

Helena Bordon at Roberto Cavalli

Spring is here & the bolder the better. For an effortless look, grab your favorite graphic tee & pair it with a super chic skirt or trouser. For an added punch, never fear metal hardware or a statement piece [i.e. the beautiful blue tribal print blazer displayed above.] Add a great pair of sunnies & you’ve got yourself a show stopper.

How Did I Get Here

Final Logo

Seeing as this is my first post, I suppose I should divulge into all of the who, what, when, where, and whys about this page & why I believe it deserves a place in the blogesphere, so here goes…

My name is Dena & I am a Personal Stylist. My company is called Lyric {styledbylyric} & I want to change the way people view the fashion industry. I want fashion to inspire & empower us & bring us together, not divide. I want to help foster personal style through people of every age, race, background and body type. I want to liberate the every day consumer & remind them of their value & their voice through the tangible items in their personal wardrobe.

My blog will provide an outlet for those interested in personal style, fashion, textiles, & design. I want my followers to read my posts & forget where they are for those few moments; to be transported to a fantastical place of vision & creativity. I want to be a bridge that connects the timid & fearful consumer to the whimsical & magical world of fashion. I want the daunting fashion industry to be seamless & attainable for everyone.

I can only hope that this blog will be an outlet for us & that it will motivate it’s followers to get up & remember why you are so incredibly beautiful & wonderful.

Let your wardrobe do the talking.

Xx.
