Step Into Fall

Sooooo, if I haven’t made my love for fall fashion clear enough yet, today is the day. I’m taking on fall footwear–which is where love turns to pure obsession. You see, there’s this small corner of the fashion world where all magical things come true; where leather meets gold meets sequins meets basically anything you could possibly imagine if you look hard enough. Some call it a shoe department. I call it my happy place.

I know what you’re thinking–how original, a woman that loves shoes. But truth be told, I find nothing more crucial in an outfit than the shoe selection. You can have on a $25,000 outfit, but if you put on the wrong footwear I want nothing to do with you it. Footwear is the binding element in a person’s wardrobe, so stop scrimping on the good stuff & start making better decisions. The time is now.

Thus, today I’ve compiled a quick list [with prices & click-through links] of my top ten favorite fall footwear fashions. These are the perfect pieces to add to your closet this season to help finish off those nearly perfect fits with ease. lace up flats

Lace Up Ballet Flats: the perfect day-to-night addition. These flats are chic yet practical for a busy day at the office to a night out with friends. Team them with dresses, denim, pants…they’re limitless. Tip: rock a light mist of bronzer on your feet to make them really pop.

My favorites: here, here & here.

loafers

Loafers: legitimately my biggest weakness this Fall; loafers are the perfect shoe. Truly. They’re feminine & sexy, but structured enough that you can take your Monday meetings by storm, but also have a hot makeout session with your Match.com date later. Tip: always go pointed toe.

My favorites: here & here.

silver oxfords

Oxfords: this season the oxford is on fire. This is the one & only shoe I will allow a client to choose in a metallic hue. Why? Because they’re amazing & your wardrobe will reach new heights with such an interesting choice. Tip: still stay minimal; silver, rose gold, gold & white only.

My favorites: here & here.

dorsay flats

D’Orsay Flats: the perfect outfit companion, d’Orsay flats go with literally everything; denim, pants, skirts, shorts…you name it. & the cut will make you feel sexier than ever. But selecting the right fit & color is the key to nailing this footwear find. For Fall, stick to cranberry, candy apple red, black, grey, taupe, nude, & blush hues. Tip: work them in before wearing them out–nobody likes bloody heels.

My favorites: here & here.

cutout

Cut-Out Booties: take your ankle boot addiction to the next level [what, you don’t have one?] with this season’s style shift. These geometric statements are the best way to draw attention to your stems & feet, without compromising comfort. Tip: watch your leg-to-ankle-ratio; ankle booties can cut you off, so make sure they’re highlighting your thinnest part & not taking away from it.

My favorites: herehere & here.

platform sneakers

Platform Sneakers: I know, you can’t even believe I’m going here right now, but I am. There are some serious competitors out there this season that are subtle, but loud enough to add some pizzaz to your wardrobe. & if executed properly, I say GO FOR IT. Plus, who doesn’t love a middle school throwback? Tip: this look is strictly daytime//casual//fun. Don’t try to turn it into evening wear.

My favorites: here & here.

pumps

The Pump: even with wild fall weather, a sturdy, simple pair of leather pumps is all the doctor ordered. They’re timeless, practical & always make sense on an otherwise busy day//week//life. I usually opt for the most extended pointed toe I can find to elongate my legs. Life tip: have at least one pair of nude & one pair of black pumps on hand, at all times.

My favorites: here & here.

ankle boots

The Ankle Bootie: not to be confused with booty, the ankle bootie is a fall wardrobe staple & has been around since what seems like the dawn of time. However, it’s time to switch it up a bit & not duplicate those black or tan Sam Edelman Petty Boots that we’ve all been sporting for like five years now [no offense Sam, I have like 35 pairs of them, xx]. This fall, throw a leopard print or fringe pair on or purchase the blush pink pair; spice it up somehow to differentiate you from the pack. It’s one thing to love a cut & style of shoe && want to wear the shit out of it for years to come [that’s also a great investment decision], however, keep it fresh & current when given the chance.

My favorites: here & here.

block heel

Heeled Sandals: seems counterintuitive right? But the right strappy sandal [preferable with a block heel] can be the perfect staple to defy the elements of fall. With enough support & leather, just a pop of skin can handle the cooler temperatures without hypothermia or discomfort. But be selective, because rocking a sandal in October means you’ve officially committed to being a fashionista. Now own it.

My favorites: here, here & here.

hunter

The Rain Boot: although I’m truly not the biggest advocate of this trend, I know it exists & it’s important to touch on. The Hunter Rain Boot syndrome–we all have it ladies, so let’s just own it now. But that doesn’t mean we have to have 400 pairs of them. The rain boot is the perfect little cut of PVC piping that allows us to frolic in rainy puddles whenever we please, but it deserves to be styled properly, as well. Team yours with a great pair of denim or even some cute leggings & throw some jewelry in the mix. Just promise me you won’t go to dinner in this fit unless you live in Oregon or somewhere equally as wet. Rain boots are for rain, babes. Not sprinkles. Rain.

My favorites: here & here.

Fall weather doesn’t mean you have to compromise your cute outfit selections, it just means you have to get a little more creative & think outside of the box. The most essential part of styling an outfit is comfort–if you aren’t feeling your best, you probably aren’t looking your best. Always opt for choices that you believe in & feel great in.

It’s time to start digging your heels into the fall season, ladies. Ah! See what I did there?

Happy Shopping.

Surrender To The Season

Pairing a cute top with a cute bottom clearly isn’t rocket science. With all the help of social media & the [sometimes ridiculously dressed] mannequins at your favorite retailer, you can certainly find your way. But finding your way vs creating it–not one in the same.  I’ve always explained to my clients that my brand doesn’t exist to simply throw clothes over your body & let you on your way. Lyric exists to create a space for elevated, inspiring outfits that help emphasize the user. & with the changing of the seasons, it’s the perfect time to update your look & get inspired by pieces that speak to you.

The time is now.

Today I’m taking on Fall 2015 fashion. We’re going to let go of those old ratty items that you swear you’ll wear again but never will & replace them with current, modern pieces that speak to you now, not you in college when you had a strict budget & a hangover before class. Yes, I still have my Santa Barbara Halloween 2007 costume, too, but it’s not taking up real estate in my closet anymore. You get the gist…let’s get to it.

Do: these boots.loose ankle bootie

Don’t: those boots. knee high boot

Finding the right boot for your body type, leg shape, age, etc., can be difficult. But the one tip I will give you this Fall is don’t over do it. Knee high boots can be tricky & nine times out of ten only add weight to your legs, versus give them shape & definition. Instead, opt for a loose fitted ankle boot [heeled or flat, entirely up to you]. They give that sexy outdoorsy feel, without the restriction of all that leather. & frankly, they’re just cuter.

Do: this denim.

chambray

Don’t: that denim.  jean jacket

You probably don’t need to be told that Fall is all about layering, however, layering properly is key. Heavy weighted items like denim can limit mobility & possibly your mood, so ditch that old millennial jean jacket you’ve been carrying around & invest in a light, soft chambray button-up instead. It’s versatile, pairs well with nearly anything & is the perfect layering piece for your Fall wardrobe.

Do: this vest.

cape vest

Don’t: that vest.

fur best

This one was hard for me, seeing as I went through a full fledged fur phase, but trust me when I say that I too purged my closet of my tacky fur, so it can be done. Try something more mature this season, like a wool cape or vest [my favorites here]. It elevates your look, your maturity level & makes you feel less Abercrombie, more Bloomingdales.

Do: this handbag.

fall handbag

Don’t: that handbag.

studded handbag

Handbags are one of the most personal pieces in a woman’s closet. We all have our own style & eye for what makes up the perfect bag, but if you make only one adjustment this Fall make it this. Invest in one great, versatile, subtle bag that suits your lifestyle, but doesn’t scream I just left Vegas [on a Tuesday]. Aka, all those bedazzled, leopard print, studded ones you’ve been hoarding…they’re never come back around so let them go.

Do: these pants.

cropped pant

Don’t: those pants.

gauchos

I’m not sure who decided that gauchos were ever a thing, but they should be shot. Too aggressive? #notsorry. Adding extra weight to a woman’s ankles, calves…legs in general, is not cute on anyone [even you, 6’3, 115lb model living in New York]. Now, give me a fitted, cropped pant–happy place. Clothes are worn to define, not to hide. As women, we tend to buy up a size or layer so much that we lose our shape & curves. Instead, we need to find the right pieces, that emphasize the right places & make us feel sexier & more feminine. Thus, this season, find yourself a great pair of black cropped pants & rock the shit out of them.

Do: this scarf.

loose scard

Don’t: that scarf.

tight scarf

My last & final adjustment this Fall is to one of my favorite accessories–the scarf. The past few years, we’ve all drowned ourselves in heavy knit pieces, that although kept us quite warm, also suffocated our necks [& likely our outfit]. So this season try a new approach; opt for a silk, printed, light weight piece instead. Live in too cold a climate? Fear not. You can still pull out those great knit numbers, but leave them untied & flowing. It’s a simple styling trick that will take you from The Gap to The Runway in 5…4…3…2…1.

Personal style doesn’t have to be an overwhelming transformative experience. The smallest adjustments from season to season can help your look feel fresh & current without all the exhausting effort. This Fall, try one minor adaptation & see how different you feel. I promise it will be worth it.

Happy Fall, babe friends.

September Issues

Dutifully titled, September can bring about some serious issues in the wardrobe department. While the models are getting ready to kill it at NYFW this weekend & help point us in the right direction, we’re left to figure this shit out for now. The weirdness with weather, the confusion over which styles need to be ditched & which are still hanging around, the inability to choose between pastels or greys for an outfit…it can all be a bit frustrating.

But fear not, for today I’ve compiled a few of my favorite [& most convenient] ways to update your wardrobe & style those weird in-between-season outfits, to get you out of the house faster & sexier than ever — Fashion Week or not.

Let’s go.

Tip #1: learn to fully embrace layers. You don’t have to put those beloved shorts & skirts away just yet, just be sure to keep it Fall-appropriate. Add a pair of ankle booties, throw on a scarf, add fall focused colors to the mix…it doesn’t have to be blunt & in your face for it to be a transitional look. The key: bulk up your top layers & keep the bottom half simple. A few of my favorites…

Tip #2: color is ok. With Fall comes this weird misconception that all prints & colors must go, but I assure you this is the farthest from the truth. Instead, shift your focus toward the right colors & patterns; mix in a few Summer shades with neutrals & keep the tones in sync with one another. Hint: think fall tones — yellows, blues, reds, soft pinks, greens…

Tip #3: switch up your footwear. If you make but one change between seasons, let it be your footwear selections. It’s game changing & doesn’t have to be painfully difficult. Decipher which shoes you wore most often during the Summer & then find their Fall-focused counterpart. For example, my favorite pair of black & gold Summer sandals were recently swapped out for a delicious pair of black & gold Sam Edelman booties. This way my wardrobe isn’t completely compromised, but my shoes are appropriate for the shift in weather. Not a fan of boots? Opt for a pointed-toe flat instead. The broader your horizons, the less mess when finding a fit.

Tip #4: change your color scheme. Whether you’re prone to vibrant makeup or not, Fall is a fun time to play around with different hues & step out of your comfort zone. From your nails to your hair to your makeup-this is the season to play. My go to switch-ups are oxblood & nude//blush lips, black, blue & taupe nails, gold & plum lids, & I usually ditch my bronzer for a soft blush. These quick changes are cheap & efficient ways of changing your look from Summer to Fall without much fuss. The trick: try, try, try again. You won’t find the perfect colors right off the bat, but once you do it’ll be show stopping. A little extra: if you choose a bold lips, go light on the rest of your face.fall makeup vamp lip

Your personal style doesn’t have to be completely revamped with every changing season [& frankly it shouldn’t be], but tweaking small things here & there can make all the difference in the world. With Fall & Winter comes dark colors, warm sweaters, oh & my personal favorite: pumpkin everything. #imfemaleafterall. So soak it in & get prepared, because it’s here & your wardrobe so wants to be ready…

Happy Shifting, babes.

Beaches Beware

Ok ladies, whether you like it or not, Summer is here [if you live in California, you’re probably about to pass out from heat stroke today]. & with that comes bikini’s. Yes. Those dreaded pieces of string that you use to “cover” yourself in front of your friends, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, neighbors, while cleaning your car, throwing a pool party, or while dancing to the latest Beyoncé song on a boat…wherever you wear yours, you should feel confident & beautiful doing so.

Thus, I’m sharing with you my personal favorite bathing suit finds for this 2015 heat, so you can drop the towel & come out of hiding with a big smile & newfound confidence.

Whether you’re ready for it or not, it’s time to face those awful dressing room mirrors & lights, & find the right suit for you this season. Just remember, the key to feeling beautiful is feeling like yourself. Don’t buy a suit just because you’re size 2 friends loves it or even because I love it; make smart purchases & be the goddess you are, for you. Plus, has any guy ever told you, “Meh, I don’t really want to see you half naked on a beach or by a pool with a beverage in your hand”…yeah, I didn’t think so.

co ord grey

Co-Ordinate

Hey Mamas [enter Mother’s Day pun here], I hope you all had a beautiful weekend! I have had a wild past few weeks, but I’m back & more focused than ever to get some serious fashion deets your way to help prep you for the fast approaching Summer months.

So there’s a new trend making some serious headway & I want to talk it through. They’re called Co-Ord [coordinate] Sets. Familiar?

I’m referring to those freaking adorable two piece, matching outfits that basically make all fashion headaches go away [if executed properly]. & I’m obsessed with them. Plus, everyone loves an easy outfit trick that actually works. Think your moms favorite 90s skirt & pantsuit, but completely flipped on it’s ass. That’s basically the birthplace of a co-ord. & my absolute favorite part about this look is it’s versatility; every single one of my clients [regardless of age, body type, lifestyle, etc.] has been able to make these pieces work for them because there are hundreds of co-ord styles & sets. Not to mention, you simply throw them on & you’re set for the day. [Um, calling all people with busy lives, this outfit is your lifesaver].

But which one should you choose? What body type works best with which style? & how will you know you’re doing it right?

Hello! Enter: Lyric.

Picking The Right Co-Ord For You: with two piece outfits comes the subconscious fear of bathing suits & the painful reminder that your body just isn’t in the shape you want it to be. But the beauty of these two piece outfits [unlike bikini’s] is that you don’t have to show skin if you don’t want to. You can choose from long sleeve, short sleeve, halter, crop, pantsuit, sweater, floral, monochromatic, cotton, satin, & even chiffon co-ords. The limits are endless, allowing almost all women to adopt this style for their Summer wardrobe. Take note:

sweater co ordA long sleeved co-ord allows for more coverage & less fuss

sunflower co ordA cropped tank & mini skirt co-ord says, I’ve got it & I wanna flaunt it

blue floral ps co ordA cropped tank & knee length skirt co-ord works beautifully on any plus sized babe

pansuit co ord[& my personal favorite] The pantsuit co-ord, appropriate for work & play

What Body Type Works Best With Which Style: with all things should come truth; knowing & being honest with yourself about your body type is the first step toward finding confidence in what you wear. It took me a long time to accept my body type, but now I work [patiently] with select pieces until I find what works best for me. It’s all a process, but beginning is the first step. That being said, co-ord outfits are amazing for the hyper-body-conscious woman, because they allow for so much versatility:

floral co ordFor my babes with tummy troubles; ample coverage, loose-fitted top, a beautiful floral print & a little highlight for the legs, this co-ord takes all the attention off of the mid-section.

stripe co ordFor my sporty, athletic babes; a body-con, striped number draws major attention to those six pack abs, highlights thin stems, but still gives appropriate coverage to the shoulders & neckline.

Screen Shot 2015-05-11 at 10.12.31 AMFor my curvier babes; knee length, bright print, subtle hued co-ord’s are ideal. You can choose a cropped top dependent upon your comfort level, or go for a blousier look to add comfort & confidence.

co ordFor my petite babes; a tee & shorts co-ord is perfect. Balancing out the shoulders with a squared-off top, making the legs appear longer with hot pants, & highlighting the mid-section as your smallest point, this look will make you feel like a 6’5″ model in Paris.

thin co ordFor my thin babes; dare to bare. An ultra-cropped tank, racerback or tee can be the perfect addition to this look. Pair it with a fun, matching pant [for some added subtlety] & you’ll be honing your inner Twiggy in 0 seconds flat.

preggo co ordFor my mommy’s-to-be; with bright neon hues, a loose-fitting top & bottom, & ample chest & tummy coverage, this has to be the most adorable way to wear this look. Team with your favorite accessories & you’ll be the hottest MILF in the room.

Am I Doing It Right?: the best way to know you’re following the co-ord fashion philosophies of the world is to be certain that you feel beautiful. If you are immediately trying to cut the tags off in the fitting room & find something fun to do so you can showcase this new fit…then you’re doing it right. If you stand in front of the mirror wearing your co-ord, doing pirouette after pirouette, then you’re doing it right. If you are meticulously scrutinizing all of the things you don’t like about your body & how ugly you feel in the outfit…you absolutely are not doing it right.

These pieces of fabric that we lay across our bodies day in & day out are not there to simply cover our nakedness, but rather to be representations of who we are & what we exude. Take the time. Be patient. & find what speaks to you. Confidence is 90% of the gig, & the clothes tell the other 10% of your story.

Happy Coordinating, babes.

Forget That. Get This.

After finishing up my past few consults & conversing with my clients about their major needs//wants out of this industry, I’ve concluded that people love a good deal. & bargain shopping is at an all time high. As much as we all love designer brands & high-end everything, it’s not realistic for the average human to spend $1,000 on new Jimmy Choo’s or a great handbag. One day. But not every day. So for those other 364, I’ve decided to help a babe out.

Today’s post is for my bargain shoppers who want a great product [or five] without the all the guilt. I’ve selected a few of my favorite 2015 shoes & found [reasonably priced] comparable products that you can purchase instead, without lacking quality. Capiche?

The Friend Zone

You know that terribly awkward place between what is & what should be. The noncommittal place where making any kind of move seems sudden & unprepared. The grey area that seems safer than anything finite. Yeah. This place. This is what I call February & March.

What? You ask.

The seven weeks between Winter & Spring that should [frankly] be their own damn season. Where you constantly feel uncomfortable because none of your clothes breathe enough, or keep you warm enough, or let in enough air…the list goes on & on. Regardless, it’s the annoying friend zone of the fashion world that you want to get out of as quickly as humanly possible. & I’m here to not only help that transition, but help you enjoy it, too.

There are five small changes you can make to prepare for this awful land of limbo. Let’s get to it.

1. Lessen The Load: swap out those heavy wool layers & opt for lighter fabrics. Layering with softer, light-weight fabrics can still keep you plenty warm without that gross overheated feeling.

Outfit Recommendations:

layer 1

A light weight blazer//sweater//jacket, over a soft tank & a great pair of wide leg pants.

layer 4

For a more casual feel; pair a cute pullover sweater, with your favorite boyfriend denim, add a leather jacket for some edge & top it off with a super feminine pair of flats//heels. Done & done.

layer 3

One of my favorite looks during this season; a fitted white tee, denim//chambray topper, awesome printed pants & a simple heel. Effortlessly chic.

2. Add Some Va Va Voom: color is everything during this transition. To help you relinquish your desperate need for an all black ensemble & reintroduce you to pinks, blues, peaches…anything that makes you think of Spring, you’ll need to reach for colors that are complimentary in your color wheel & throw them in the mix. You don’t have to pack away all those darks just yet, but adding Spring-focused colors to each outfit [even as simple as your handbag] can help things move along quickly.

Outfit Recommendations:

add color 1

Chartreuse & black are the ultimate duo. Adding this pop of color to your Winter-focused outfit can hurry the Spring season along in a major way.

add color 2

Don’t want to change out those dark colors just yet? Understandable. Just invest in a fun, bright handbag to keep your look fresh & transitional. A small change that makes you look more fashion forward than ever.

add color 3

By now you should all know my obsession love for an amazing blazer, & this is the perfect time to bust one of those babies out. A [colored] fitted blazer will help you ditch those heavy coats & bring a softer layer to your outfit. Not to mention, make you look prepped for basically anything.

3. Print It Up: ditch that entirely solid ensemble you’ve been rocking all Winter & reintroduce yourself to prints. Yes, those floral, patterned, beautiful things that you’ve let sit in the back of your closet for the past eight weeks or so. But don’t forget, you have options here; tribal, floral, animal, chevron, houndstooth, etc.  Get creative.

Outfit Recommendations:

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 11.51.06 AM

A printed shoe can be exactly what you need to add a little pop of Spring to your once Winter outfit.

winter print 4

A monochromatic printed pant is a subtle way to add dimension, but not take away from the basic feel of an outfit.

winter print 5

Don’t limit yourself to typical prints. Challenge yourself this season to find the most unique & outspoken print you can find, team it with subtle pieces & voila, you’re a fashion icon.

4. OMG Shoes: nothing shows that you’re more prepared for the coming season than the perfect shoe. I know it sounds ridiculous, but how many times have you witnessed an amazing outfit be completely ruined by the wrong shoe? Uhg. Pet Peeve #1. If you’re going to make all the effort in the world on your top half, pay mind to the bottom half while you’re at it. Starting with your feet. Your outfit & stylist [me] will thank you.

Shoe Recommendations:

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 1.11.04 PM

One of the easiest ways to transition your footwear is by rocking a black//grey//taupe, edgy sandal with tons of hardware. The dark color & heavy hardware gives a cool Winter feel, with breeziness fit for Spring sunshine.

bootie

Not ready to put your cute Winter boots away just yet? Totally fine. Just try to find yourself a pair with a peep-toe for a little sex appeal & a major nod to Spring. [Be sure to wear an awesome, bright toe polish to top it off].

red flats

Much like a good blazer, pointed toe flats are basically the loves of my life. They’re so sexy, so chic, & so practical. You can run errands in them, go out with friends, rock a date night, or look like the most put together employee at your next company meeting. Try them in red, blue or grey for an added edge & you’ll be the hottest thing the room.

5. Shaded: clothing is not the only staple that needs revamping between seasons. Your lips should get some love, too. Find yourself a few fun, bold shades that will bring your kissers from the dark to light with one quick swipe.

Color Recommendations:

twig lipstick

Twig by MAC is the perfect daily neutral for those of you not quite prepared for Spring just yet.

candy yum yum

For some major Spring pop, Candy Yum-Yum by MAC is my go-to color.

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 12.40.55 PM

MAC’s Kinda Sexy is a fun, subdued transitional color for your lips, if you aren’t prepared to go rogue just yet.

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 12.49.45 PM

Ready to go pink? Try Pink Plaid by MAC & your wish is my command. Perfect for warm Spring days, this color will help ease the transition away from Winter.

So the next time you find yourself in that terribly awkward place between what is & what should be, remember these tips & solidify exactly how you want to be personified. Stand out & be ahead of the game. Because the grey area sucks anyway.

Thank you for your judgements. Thank you for reading all the verbiage I spew at you regularly. Thank you for letting me curse when I just can’t explain things any other way. Thank you for telling your friends, family, loved ones, co-workers, etc., about me & what I’m doing in this little blogosphere of the social media world. Thank you for believing in the positivity behind this brand. Thank you for being on the forefront of this vision I have for the fashion industry. Thank you.

As a fresh business owner, I find the future daunting, exhilarating, immeasurable, but mostly, ours for the taking. I hope you’ll continue to ride on throughout this journey with StyledbyLyric & get out of it exactly what I envision for all my clients: your own personal experience & style.

Peace&love.

Runway to Realway

It’s easy to find yourself “oohing” & “ahhing” over New York Fashion Week; all the Instagram posts, fan pages & [my personal favorite] the fashion blogger/vlogger outfits flooding the streets of NY…it’s intoxicating. NYFW is a global event that seemingly stops time; for those eight magical days people of all ages & backgrounds are allowed [& enticed] to fall madly into the entire experience & give their full attention.

But the real question is: what the hell does it all mean?

I watched the unbelievable Ralph Lauren show in Central Park this year. I drooled over Whitney Pozgay’s joyful collection & fabrics. & I nearly passed out over Oscar De La Renta’s pastel//floral//heaven of a show. But even I felt overwhelmed & lost about some of the designers direction & focus. So I’ve decided it’s time to break it down; make sense of these fabrics & textures & sometimes downright weird fashion trends, so you can feel confident & realway-ready for the Fall shopping scene.

I will be breaking down NYFW’s Spring 2015 collections into the four major compartments I saw most prevalent. Here goes…

1. Progressive Pastels: shocking, I know. Spring pastels. BUT, this year’s runway shows provided a few fresh takes on what we deem “pastel” & not. For example, we saw plenty of ashy grays, granites, blacks mixed with bright colors & metallics, leaving room for interpretation & creativity within your Spring wardrobe. Designers also added some wild pops on color: tangerine & vibrant yellows to offset the standard Spring color wheel. My personal favorite however: dusty lilac. Be still my heart. The reality is pastels aren’t going anywhere, so get those steamers ready in 2015, because you may find that your closet is already full of amazing “re-do’s” for the Spring season.

2. A Nod to Nature: a fresh take on a classic concept; designers coerced the old standby “floral” concept to become a simple statement. Designers allowed these once busy floral patterns to stand alone with graceful & simple prints, mixed with delicate fabrics & styles. Both dark & light backdrops with beautiful foliage on jackets, skirts, tops…it was truly artwork. I remember feeling as if last year’s Spring concepts were too neon & hectic, so this elegant change makes me more than excited. Although designers definitely gave a major nod towards femininity at this year’s NYFW, they also played into androgyny with a sexy edge. Never have I seen more darks mixed with lights & bright patterns mixed with ominous backgrounds. So perhaps I am saying once Spring 2015 rolls around think botanical garden with a lot of thorny rose bushes. Ya dig?

 3. Whimsically White: Labor Day is no longer a determinant of fashion & who can wear what, when, how, & why. White is ready all year round & this year’s NYFW proved that it takes no prisoners. It’s counterpart? You guessed it: black. The two seem to be nearly fighting each other throughout some of the prints from this years’ shows. With lush, creamy whites & beiges come dark edgier, leathered black fabrics & pieces…it was pretty damn sexy if I do say so myself. Not to mention designers definitely played up the Winter to Spring transition throughout many of the their looks, making our lives that much easier when the time comes. Don’t get me wrong, black & white weren’t the only color pairings making major headway, they threw in some military greens, peach, reds, flannel prints & some really beautifully vibrant blues to mix up the matchy-ness. So when Spring 2015 rolls around think “What Not To Wear” except, break all the rules.

4. B is For Boyfriend: much like the past two seasons, the boyfriend look is here to stay. With blousy button-ups, oversized denim [both pants, jackets & dresses] & plenty of flannel print, this year’s NYFW proved that comfortable can still be sexy. Designers selected gender-neutral prints & shapes, toning down the ever-expected Spring femme styles & creating versatile over-sized pieces. Not to mention the lack of sharp heels on the runway; it seemed as if designers wanted to give their models a break this year [ha, lets be real]. More shows debuted sandals & sneakers than they do in their Summer months, or so it seemed. So my take on the coming Spring season is “less is more”. Sometimes simplicity & comfort can be the sexiest of things; throw on some sneakers, pop on some lipgloss & be ready for your day.

Although we’re slowwwwwwly moving into the Fall season, Spring will be rearing it’s shiny little head shortly there after & I want my babes prepared & [more so] excited to find new pieces that fit your wardrobe & style. The above are just tools to help navigate the endlessly interesting, but complicated world of fashion & runway. I hope they helped! Now get busy window shopping…there’s so much more to see.

Make A Serious Statement

I’m not entirely certain that my lower back pain [currently keeping me bed-ridden] isn’t from sheer excitement over this brand & a possible screaming//jumping//dance party I threw once I found their unbelievable pieces. Okay…overstatement? Yes. But that’s the point isn’t it; making a statement.

Dylanlex has hands down the most detail-oriented, loudest, most beautiful statement necklaces I have ever laid my eyes on. Every single inch of these works of art are meant to turn heads & scream “Hell yes, my necklace does rule.” I don’t even rock silver, but I’m considering trading in my entire jewelry collection to rock the crap out of these babies.

Their price points may stop your heart, but if you take nothing else from this amazing brand, let them inspire you to go out & seek your very own mega necklace [at whatever price point is reasonable for your wallet] in the coming Fall season. You, too, can make the exact statement you wish to make & represent your personal style while doing so. After all, fashion is about creativity & helping you identify that much more clearly who you are & what you love.

Now go scream & shout…or just buy a great new piece that will do it for you & your wardrobe. Xx.
